Among those murdered in the Holocaust were 20,000 Hungarian Jews, shot on the banks of the Danube, having been forced to remove their shoes. The shoes were deemed to hold value. Sculptor Gyula Pauer’s monument is composed of 60 pairs of shoes in iron. #HolocaustMemorialDay

On this day 26th January 1907 The Short Magazine Lee-Enfield Mk III was officially introduced into British Military Service. Its named after the designer of the rifle's bolt system,James Paris Lee, and the factory in which it was designed,the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield.
